Procedure

(3-Oxo-2,3-dihydro-1H-isoindol-1-yl)-acetic acid (100 mg, 0.52 mmol) was dissolved in 2 mL dry DMF and stirred under N2 at 0° C. NaH (44 mg, 1.1 mmol) was added and stirring continued for 0.5 h. Benzyl bromide (0.13 mL, 1.1 mmol) was added, the mixture was warmed to room temperature and stirred for 3 h. The mixture was diluted with EtOAc. The organic phase was washed with 2×10 mL aq LiCl and 10 mL brine, then dried (MgSO4), filtered and evaporated. The title compound was purified by silica gel chromatography (102 mg, 53%).
