Procedure

5-Hydroxy-2-nitrobenzaldehyde dimethyl acetal (5.33 g) is dissolved in dry DMF (50 ml), and thereto are added potassium carbonate (6.91 g), sodium iodide (7.5 g) and 3-chloropropanol (4.73 g), and the mixture is stirred at 70° C. for 22 hours. To the mixture is added ethyl acetate, and the insoluble materials are removed by filtration. The filtrate is concentrated under reduced pressure, and the residue is purified by silica gel column chromatography to give 5-(3'-hydroxypropyloxy)-2-nitrobenzaldehyde dimethyl acetal (6.39 g) as a pale yellow oil.

Workup

  1. customthe insoluble materials are removed by filtration
  2. concentrationThe filtrate is concentrated under reduced pressure
