Procedure

PdCl2(dppf)CH2Cl2 (33 mg) was added to a mixture of the crude product of (S)-tert-butyl 3-(4-chloro-3-iodo-1H-pyrrolo[3,2-c]pyridin-1-yl)pyrrolidine-1-carboxylate (180 mg) obtained in Step 2, 1-ethynyl 3,5-dimethoxybenzene (97 mg), copper (I) iodide (15 mg), and triethylamine (1.0 ml) in THF (4.0 ml). After nitrogen purging, the resulting mixture was stirred at 50° C. for 30 minutes. Ethyl acetate and water were added to the reaction mixture to separate the organic layer. After being washed with a saturated sodium chloride solution, the organic layer was dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, and the solvent was then distilled off under reduced pressure. The resulting residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (developing solvent: hexane/ethyl acetate) to obtain the title compound as a colorless, amorphous substance (133 mg). Physical properties: m/z [M+H]+ 482.4
