Procedure
Aqueous hydrochloric acid (1 N, 36 mL, 36 mmol) was added to a solution of 3-amino-1-(8-(cyanomethyl)-1,4-dioxaspiro[4.5]decan-8-yl)-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxamide (Intermediate 35-5) (5.5 g, 18 mmol) in THF (106 mL). The reaction vessel was capped with a reflux condenser and heated to 80° C. for 2 hours. The reaction mixture was then cooled to ambient temperature, diluted with ethyl acetate, and neutralized with saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate solution. The organic layer was separated and then washed with brine. The washed solution was dried over sodium sulfate, the dried solution was filtered, and the filtrate was concentrated to afford the title compound, which was used without further purification.
