6-Chloro-3-iodo-1-trityl-1H-pyrazolo[4,3-c]pyridine (Intermediate 1C; 5.53 g, 10.60 mmol), proline (0.42 g, 3.65 mmol), copper (I) iodide (0.21 g, 1.103 mmol), potassium carbonate (7.40 g, 53.5 mmol), and ethylamine hydrochloride (2.78 g, 34.1 mmol) were stirred in DMSO (30 mL) at 70° C. for 24 h. Room temperature was attained, ammonium hydroxide was added and the products extracted into DCM (×2). The combined organic extracts were washed with brine, dried over MgSO4, filtered, and concentrated in vacuo.
