The mixture of sodium hydride (14.32 mg), 2-chloro-1-methyl-1H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine (100 mg) and 1-ethyl-3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-1,3-dihydro-2H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridin-2-one (152 mg) in DMF (3 ml) was stirred at 180° C. under a dry atmosphere (CaCl2 tube) for 20 min. The mixture was neutralized with 1N HCl at 0° C. and extracted with EtOAc. The organic layer was separated, washed with water and brine, dried over MgSO4 and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was purified by column chromatography (silica gel, eluted with 0%-100% EtOAc in hexane) to give 1-ethyl-3-{4-[(1-methyl-1H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridin-2-yl)oxy]phenyl}-1,3-dihydro-2H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridin-2-one (150 mg) as white crystals.
