Procedure

A mixture of N-[3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)benzyl]-7-(3-chloropropyl)-7,8-dihydro-5-(4-methylphenyl)-8-oxo-6-pyrido[3,4-b]pyridinecarboxamide (66 mg), sodium hydride (60% oily) (84 mg) and THF (3 ml) was stirred at room temperature for 14 hours. 2N-HCl was added to the reaction mixture, which was then made basic with aqueous potassium carbonate and thereafter extracted with ethyl acetate. The extract was washed with water and dried, and the solvent was removed by distillation. Thus, the entitled compound was obtained as colorless crystals (35 mg).
