To a solution of 1-(2-aminopropyl)-indazol-6-ol (0.46 g, 2.4 mmol) in THF (10.0 mL) was added a saturated aqueous solution of sodium bicarbonate (2.0 mL) followed by benzyl chloroformate (0.40 mL) at room temperature. After stirring for 1 h, the solution was diluted with 1 N HCl (10 mL) and ammonium chloride (20 mL) followed by extraction with ethyl acetate (3×50 mL). The combined extracts were washed with brine (10 mL), dried (MgSO4) and evaporated to give a residue which was used in the next step without further purification (0.75 g, 98%); MS (ES) m/z 326 (M+).
