A solution containing crude 46 (5.0 g, 12.1 mmol), ethyl acrylate (2.7 g, 27.7 mmol), tetrabutylammonium chloride (3.5 g, 12.6 mmol), NaHCO3 (2.0 g, 23.8 mmol), and Pd(OAc)2 (0.107 g, 0.46 mmol) in DMF (40 mL) was heated at 100° C. for 16 h. After cooling to ambient temperature, the reaction mixture was diluted with diethyl ether and washed with water, brine, dried over anhydrous Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated. The crude product was purified by flash silica gel chromatography (EtOAc/hexane, 1:3) to afford 3.7 g (70%) of 47 as an orange-colored oil. 1H NMR (CDCl3, 300 MHz) δ7.81 & 6.99 (rotamer, app d, J=7.5 Hz, app t, J=7.5 Hz, 111), 7.61 (dd, J=15.9, 18.3 Hz, 1H), 7.47-7.20 (m, 8H), 6.58 (dd, J=5.7, 15.6 Hz, 1H), 5.27-5.16 (m, 2H), 4.24 (q, J=7.2 Hz, 2H), 4.17-4.08 (m, 1H), 3.51-3.35 (m, 2H), 3.38 & 3.17 (rotamer, 2 dd, J=3.6, 14.1 Hz, 1H), 2.89-2.69 (m, 1H), 1.94-1.64 (m, 4H), 1.36 (t, J=7.2 Hz, 2H) ppm.
