Procedure
To the solution of N-ethyl-5-iodo-6-methyl-2-(methylthio)pyrimidin-4-amine (25.2 g, 81.48 mmol) in DMA (260 mL) were added ethyl acrylate (12.23 g, 122.2 mmol), Pd(OAc)2 (3.65 g, 16.25 mmol), (+)BINAP and triethyl amine (24.68 g, 244.4 mmol). Then the reaction mixture was heated to 100° C. and reacted overnight. After evaporation of solvent, the residue was diluted with water and the aqueous layer was extracted with ethyl acetate. The product (E)-ethyl-3-(4-(ethylamino)-6-methyl-2-(methylthio)pyrimidin-5-yl)acrylate (16.8 g, 73% yield) was isolated by silica gel column chromatography with 6-8% ethyl acetate in hexane as eluent. 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3): δ 7.65 (d, J=16.4 Hz, 1H), 6.20 (d, J=16.4 Hz, 1H), 5.15 (bs, 1H), 4.28 (q, J=7.2 Hz, 2H), 3.54 (q, J=7.2 Hz, 2H), 2.53 (s, 3H), 2.37 (s, 3H), 1.35 (t, J=7.2 Hz, 3H), 1.24 (t, J=7.2 Hz, 3H).
