4-Piperazinyl phenol (Schweizerhall, 5 g, 30.5 mmol) was dissolved in THF (150 mL), treated with diisopropylethylamine (12.2 mL, 70.0 mmol), and cooled to 0° C. Benzylchloroformate (4.4 mL, 30.5 mmol) was added and the reaction was allowed to warm to room temperature and stir overnight. The solution was diluted with EtOAc, washed with water and brine, dried over MgSO4, filtered and evaporated to give a brown oil. Column chromatography (SiO2, 40% EtOAc/hexanes) gave 28-2 as a white solid. Rf (40% EtoAc/hexanes) 0.34.
