Procedure
A solution of 2-bromoacetic acid in THF at room temperature is treated with excess sodium hydride for 15 minutes. To this mixture is added 1-(4-cyanobenzyl)-5-(hydroxymethyl)imidazole (Example 1) and the mixture is then heated. Upon cooling, the mixture is poured into H2O and EtOAc, extracted with EtOAc (3×), washed with brine, dried (MgSO4), filtered and evaporated to give the desired compound.
