To 157.5 ml anhydrous i-propanol and 17.5 ml DMF, kept under N2 atmosphere, were added while stirring at 20°-35° C. 0.2 mole NaH and then, after the sodium isopropylate had been precipitated, 0.2 mole malonitrile. Within 5 minutes thereafter 0.1 mole copper (I) bromide and 0.1 mole 3-bromothiophene were added.
